What is HireHer?

Daring. Unafraid.

Born out of the 2024 Election, HireHer’s Founder Meghan found herself at an unexpected crossroads in her career path. Looking introspectively, Meghan realized what sparked joy for her was mentoring and advising young women looking to work in politics. Essentially, Meghan aims to be the person she wishes she had at 22.

Uplifting. Inspiring.

Washington DC and Capitol Hill are incredible spaces for young people, especially young women, motivated to do good work in government and politics, but it can also seem like an overwhelming, cliquey, and impenetrable boys club. And the truth is- sometimes it can be. To combat this there are incredible networks of women supporting women if you know where to find them and HireHer can help you do just that.

Dynamic. Energizing.

Feminine spaces are particularly critical at this time and HireHer seeks to help young women get in to politics and continue to build that community. By working with you to set career goals, create and tweak your portfolio materials, and practice those interview questions, HireHer will aid you in improving your overall professional persona. Not to mention the community of women you will become a part of through our networking events and the DC specific advice you will receive in our weekly newsletter; everything from insightful articles on career growth to best places to telework and get a great cup of coffee.

Meet HireHer

HireHer Founder, Meghan Gilkes, hails from central New Jersey and you will know it the moment you meet her. Meghan is no-nonsense but fun loving, raised in a large family full of strong women and supportive men as the eldest daughter, first granddaughter, and first niece… we think you get the picture.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, Meghan holds dual degrees in American History and Government & Politics. While there, Meghan was tapped by Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society and was an active leader on campus including as a member of Delta Gamma Fraternity-Beta Sigma Chapter, where she continues to serve as Membership Advisor.

In her professional life, Meghan got her start in local politics coordinating a county level campaign during the 2016 election cycle prior to moving to Washington, DC. Before achieving her longtime goal of working on Capitol Hill, Meghan spent time in the public affairs and non-profit spaces; almost always under all female leadership.

Meghan served Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) as the Director of Operations & Logistics in the Office of the President Pro Tempore.  Senator Murray was the first woman to ever serve as the “PPT” and Meghan was honored to establish the Senator's new Leadership office and learn the nuances of this unique position; from handling her security detail to signing all the legislation before it heads to the President to become law- or get vetoed. Previous to that, Meghan also served Senator Murray in capacity of her Director of Scheduling & Executive Assistant and her Deputy Scheduler before that. Currently, Meghan works in corporate global government relations.

Volunteering is an important part of  Meghan’s life, so in addition to work she serves on the board of the University of Maryland DC Alumni Network and is a member of the Women’s Congressional Staff Association Advisory Board.

In her spare time, Meghan is an avid reader, loves reality television, pop music, Philadelphia Eagles football, Disney World, and the Amtrak Northeast Regional line.

Meghan lives in Washington, DC with her husband and their small zoo of rescue animals.
